## Question on addition of fraction

Let’s take an example.

QUESTION

2\frac{1}{3} + \frac{10}{4}

### 1. Convert any mixed fraction to improper fraction

2\frac{1}{3} (mixed fraction)

CONVERTED

= \dfrac{7}{3} (improper fraction)

Therefore,

\dfrac{7}{3} + \dfrac{10}{4}

### 2. Find the LCM of the denominators

The LCM of 3 and 4

= 12

### 3. Write the LCM as your new denominator

\dfrac{}{12}

### 4. Divide the LCM by the old denominators

12 ÷ 3 = 4

12 ÷ 4 = 3

### 5. Multiply the answer by their numerator

4 × 7 = 28

3 × 10 = 30

### 6. Write the answers as new numerators

\dfrac{28+30}{12}

### 7. Add the new numerators

\dfrac{28+30}{12}

= \dfrac{58}{12}
